ANNONA, Texas -- Now that the Wright Patman Regional Water Supply Agency's Board of Directors has established 10 standing committees, they need to find committee members to fill 36 vacancies on nine of them.

During their second meeting Monday, the board agreed to establish the 10 committees, nine of which would be five-member committees consisting of a chairman and four committee members each.

WPRWSA President Mike Huddleston recommended to the 11-member board that nine of them could serve as committee chairmen, while the committee members themselves could be nominated from the members' city councils, municipal staffs, chamber of commerce staffs, industrial development staffs or community leaders.

The 11 member cities are Annona, Atlanta, Avery, Clarksville, DeKalb, Hooks, Maud, Nash, New Boston, Redwater and Wake Village.

Board member and Atlanta City Manager Mike Ahrens expressed concern about whether it would be possible to get the total number of committee members needed. Huddleston replied that 11 cities shouldn't have a problem finding a few dozen people.

After some discussion, the board agreed to set up an 11th committee -- the agency's nominating committee -- and appointed board member and Clarksville Mayor Ann Rushing as the committee's chairman.

Beside Rushing, the board appointed four of its own members to serve on the nominating committee: Nash City Administrator Elizabeth Lea, Avery Mayor Bill Trimm, DeKalb Mayor Paul Meadows and Maud City Councilman David Gipson.

The 10 standing committees include the Texas Water Development Board Committee, Sulphur River Basin Authority Committee, Projects Committee, Projects Management Committee, Finance and Budget Committee, Legislative and Rules Committee, Water Quality Committee, Regional Development Committee, Grant and Funding Committee and Audit Committee.

During the meeting the board agreed to have the Audit Committee consist of all 11 boardmembers.
