The Dallas Morning News, Letter To The Editor

After all the rain we have had and are forecast to get in the next few days, isn't it amazing as you drive the streets of the Dallas area to see automatic lawn sprinkler systems operating? C'mon, pepole, learn how to use that on/off switch; it's really not that difficult.

[COMMENT: Here in Mount Misery it has been raining almost daily for the whole month of June. The ground is totally saturated, and some plants are suffering. According to another article in The Dallas News, Dallas received 10.49 inches of rainfall in June, the second most rainfall in June since 1928, when they had 11.58 inches. Dallas' lawns simply do NOT need to be watered by sprinkler systems right now. Until Dallas can control these wasteful habits, they do not deserve to build any new reservoirs, anywhere, in anyone's back yard. Simple. Period. If Dallas does not have the discipline to curb this outrageous waste of water, then they should not be acting like cry-babies to the rest of us to try to force us to sacrifice valuable farmland and woodland for their thoughtlessly extravagant habits. They are a bunch of idiots if they think that they can get away with such contradictions of philosophy. It is nice that this man got his letter published. R.]
