The Northeast Texas Lake Country consists of eleven counties that cover approximately 8,500 square miles, or only 3% of the State of Texas. These eleven counties are Bowie, Cass, Marion, Harrison, Gregg, Upshur, Camp, Morris, Titus, Franklin and Red River. There are over 200 major lakes in this district. It would seem that we already have sufficient lakes and reservoirs without needing the additional monstrous Marvin Nichols I & II and George Parkhouse I & II Reservoirs, which would flood and destroy forever many of these already existing, smaller but scenic lakes. In addition to these, there are countless minor ponds on many family farms in this district. To obtain the names for all of these lakes and reservoirs, I consulted The Roads Of Texas (1999 Revised Edition) by Shearer Publishing, 406 Post Oak Road, Fredericksburg, Texas 78624, tel. 1-800-458-3808. The source of these maps was the Cartographics Laboratory at Texas A&M University, Bryan.

The lakes listed below are all at least one-half-mile long, or longer. These lakes are sorted by county, clockwise from Bowie County, and generally are listed as they appear in the atlas, from northeast to southwest through the county. If a lake's location falls into two counties, it is listed in the county where the dam is located.
