Mount Sylvia
Mount Sylvia is a rural community
and church located between the J.J. Morris Ranch and FM 1402,
about 10 miles north of Mount Pleasant. It is only a stone's throw
south of White Oak Creek. Lake-opponent Joe Max McKelvey spent
his childhood in the scenic Mount Sylvia area.
In and around this area, there are
a number of trees with white bark. Here is a grove of them near
Mount Sylvia. They don't look like either white oak or cottonwood
trees, so probably they are some sort of birch trees. This was
an impressive sight.
The above are various views, looking
north and west, along the road to Mount Sylvia.
