J.J. Morris Ranch
Travelling north on FM 1402 (Harts
Bluff Road) from Mount Pleasant to Sugar Hill, one eventually
arrives at the bridges over White Oak Creek. If you take the last
right turn before the slope downward to the bridges, you'll pass
through Mount Sylvia and can eventually turn north on a dead-end
county road leading to the J.J. Morris Ranch. All these photos
were taken at this ranch, which is located about one mile south
of White Oak Creek.
The distant tree-line in the above
three photographs follows alongside the banks of White Oak Creek.
Note that I was taking these photos from higher ground than White
Oak. These views are looking towards the north, and all of this
low-lying land would be flooded by the "potential" Marvin
Nichols II Reservoir. If that reservoir were built already, then
here at the J.J. Morris Ranch I would literally be standing on
the shore of Marvin Nichols II! But in terms of disruption to
local life, Marvin Nichols II would be much more preferable than
Marvin Nichols I; but neither of these reservoirs should be constructed.
They would be technologically unnecessary and destroy some more
of what little is left of our pristine "original" countryside,
as has been destroyed already with forlorn little ol' Lake Welsh
(Gallery 46).
The J.J. Morris Ranch is quite scenic.
