Boxelder
This herd of cattle were more curious
about me than I of them. They were reposing in the shade from
the noontime Sun. I turned off the "main road" from
Lydia and made a U-shaped excursion along this rather primitive
lane over to historic Fogleman Cemetery, just southwest of Boxelder.
From Lydia to the cemetery and Boxelder is about ten miles and
sections of the current "main road" would be flooded
by the proposed reservoir and therefore be impassable. Although
it might appear from my photographs that this is "deserted"
countryside, that is merely an artistic technique that I use as
a photographer. In fact, this area is rather densely populated
(all things considered), and a lot of people would lose their
beautiful countryside farms and ranches to the lake -- some of
the most tranquil natural places in the world.
This is a view looking south from
near Fogleman Cemetery. All of this land would be submerged by
this abomination of a reservoir. Whether the lake-water would
reach and cover the cemetery is impossible to tell, but it would
undoubtedly have to be moved, along with several other historic
cemeteries. This is very flat land, which is not at all suitable
for a reservoir of any nature.
This is a view looking west on Road
412 from Boxelder to Magic Valley Lake, which is about seven miles
west of Boxelder.
This is Burkhand Branch, looking
north from the road bridge, about four miles west of Boxelder.
A couple of miles north of here, Kickapoo Creek flows into Burkhand
Branch; and a couple of miles south of here, Burkhand Branch flows
into Cuthand Creek, which in turn flows into Sulphur River, not
too far north from the Shumake Ranch.
