Sulphur River Gallery 19
Fairview
Travelling east on Texas Highway
71 from Sulphur Bluff, one passes this beautiful ranch where they
are raising Black Angus cattle. (At least I know Black Angus when
I see them!) These black cattle were such a surprising sight to
see in contrast to the white cattle on the South Sulphur ranch.
In the distance next to the Black
Angus pasture fence, two ranchers were riding horses alongside
the highway. And down in the dip of the road was a sign warning
that this is a deer crossing point.
About 6 miles east of Sulphur Bluff,
on the Hopkins-Franklin County Line is the historic old community
church and cemetery known as Fairview.
Across Highway 71 from the Fairview
Church, this is a view looking due-north. As I stated, the North
and South Sulphur Rivers converge at the exact northwestern corner
of Franklin County. Thus, this is a view in that direction. The
confluence of the two rivers would be about 4 miles due-north
of the Fairview Church.
This is Highway 71 next to the Fairview
Cemetery on the right, looking east towards Hagansport, which
is about 7 miles away from here at the junction of Texas Highway
37, which goes from Winnsboro to Mount Vernon to Clarksville.
Beyond Hagansport on Highway 71 it is just a short distance to
Talco, Sugar Hill and Evergreen.
From Fairview to Evergreen, about 30 miles as the crow flies,
this highway would be running alongside the southern lakeshore
of the Marvin Nichols I Reservoir.
