Sulphur River Gallery 17
White Oak Creek, West
If you exit from Interstate 30 at
Saltillo and go north on Highway 900, through Saltillo north to
Sulphur Bluff, you will cross White Oak Creek. These are two highway
shots looking north. Note the flood gauge beside the road. It
goes up to 5 feet, so presumably all of this land is periodically
flooded and would be made even worse by the construction of the
Marvin Nichols Reservoir. This highway would run alongside the
western extremities of the lake. From this point to the proposed
Marvin Nichols Dam is about 35 miles east, as the crow flies.
This is some extremely scenic countryside! It is so lush and tropical-looking
right now!
These are two views eastwards of
White Oak Creek as it flows underneath Highway 900. This is looking
in the direction of the flow of the creek, which originates from
a confluence of smaller creeks and streams about 15 miles southwestardly,
just east of Sulphur Springs.
