Sulphur River Gallery 1
White Oak Creek, East
The above three photos show the
view of White Oak Creek looking south from Interstate 30 about
15 miles northeast of Mount Pleasant. The next photo is a view
of the creek looking north from the Interstate, and the final
photo is that of a rare white oak tree near the creek. Thousands
of these white oak trees are endangered by this proposed reservoir.
White Oak Creek runs into Sulphur
River at the northeastern corner of Morris County, just as the
confluence of the North and South Sulphur Rivers marks the northwestern
corner of Franklin County. A century ago, both Morris and Franklin
Counties were part of a larger Titus County (subsequently divided
for convenience of legal administration and jurisdiction), so
obviously those surveyors who drew the original boundaries of
Titus County intended the northern border to follow Sulphur River
from the confluence of the north and south rivers to its confluence
with White Oak Creek. For additional information, see Galleries
19-21.
