The top two photos are located not
too far west of the Sulphur River Bridge over U.S. Highway 259.
This property is part of the large Broseco Ranch east of the historic
Evergreen Cemetery. The highway runing left to right is Texas
Highway 71 from Sugar Hill to Greater Dalby. This land would be
flooded or lost to mitigation for the main Marvin Nichols Reservoir
on Sulphur River.
This second photo
is included in the package of ten. It shows several "cattle
ponds" on the Broseco Ranch. Texas Highway 71 runs from left
to right (west to east). The perpendicular road from the bottom
center up to Highway 71 is a private Broseco Ranch road. The historic
Evergreen Cemetery is located about 4 miles west of the two smaller
lakes in the upper lefthand portion of the photograph. All of
the land north of Highway 71 would be flooded for the Marvin Nichols
Reservoir on Sulphur River. In fact, this photo may indeed include
the actual dam site for this uselessly destructive reservoir.
All of the Broseco Ranch would undoubtedly be lost to mitigation.
A dike would be included with the reservoir construction from
the dam site to about the middle of this photograph, to keep the
waters of the reservoir from flooding Highway 71, which would
separate the two Marvin Nichols Reservoirs, at least in theory.
The three lower photos are general
views looking north-northeast towards the Pewitt Ranch Oil Field
and the old Evergreen Community Cemetery west of the Broseco Ranch
and east of Texas Highway 1402 between Mount Pleasant and Sugar
Hill (formerly Wilkinson). All of the land in these three photos
would be flooded or lost to mitigation for the lesser Marvin Nichols
Reservoir on White Oak Creek, the dam for which would be located
in extreme northeastern Titus County about six miles northeast
of Cooper's Chapel.
